Welcome

Life Shield Engineered Systems LLC, a subsidiary of The Sherwin-Williams Company, formulates, creates, and manufactures elastomeric products for the blast mitigation and anti-spall markets. Our materials have been tested and validated in almost 150 blast tests and ballistic fragmentation tests by various United States government agencies, foreign governments, engineering firms, universities, and private companies.

Life Shield® technologies are for use in high threat, high risk and exposure environments. They are installed in buildings and facilities that face situations far exceeding high explosive and vapor cloud explosion blast load limits established by the United States General Services Administration (GSA), International Standards Organization (ISO), and previously by the United States Interagency Security Council (ISC) for windows and structures.

All Life Shield® products require integration into the structure or vehicle by knowledgeable and qualified blast engineering firms. The design of Life Shield based blast mitigation systems have, in test after test, met the established performance criteria of the GSA and ISO. Unlike anti-shatter window film, laminated glass, or sheet steel, Life Shield® materials can be used in many different ways allowing engineers to offer levels of protection not previously available with classical material. This enhanced protection can be achieved with reduced loads to the structure and minimal impact on aesthetics and meet anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) requirements.

Life Shield® products are used for in-fill architectural elements such as walls and windows in structures, blast walls and armored vehicles for spall reduction, as well as facades and curtain walls. The materials were developed through research by scientists and engineers in The Sherwin-Williams Company laboratories into the blast performance on a molecular level of elastomeric polymers. Focus on the chemistry and material properties of elastomers has led to spray applied systems for walls with use patents and catcher systems for walls and windows with patents pending.
